may day 2006 continues
that's a lotta lotta people. who are very psyched. the transit workers won their battle this past winter, the french just shot down some capitalist reform, commies are getting elected all over latin america, bush is going down; there's something happening here. and now.

How did the Transit Union win, exactly? Their president is in jail and they're paying hefty fines.
And, I know you're going to give me a 'nothing is really good or bad' kind of answer but do you really think the spread of Communism is something to cheer?
why would i give you a "nothing is really good or bad" answer? i absolutely think there are good and bad things. e.g. amsterdam=good, stepping in dog poop=bad.
i just don't like arguing with you. you always change the subject when i win a point. and the argument always eventually becomes about something huge, like whether or not unions are a good thing in general, and i like to use facts to back up my points, and i'm not about to sit here at work and research a master's thesis when there is plenty out there already written you can read.
the last time we argued about whether the war in iraq was a bad idea it ended up with you saying that you just liked bush and trusted him.
when we argued about unions, one of your points was that you had spent a lot of time "around" a lot of unions and they were all, every single one of them, exacly like the mafia. how is someone supposed to argue with stuff like that?
i enjoy arguments that are based on more than just feelings or your own personal experience. i like it when people use the weight of facts--historical events, scientific studies, direct quotes--rather than snideness to make their cases.
now you want me to argue with you about whether communism is good or bad? i don't think so.
I don't change the subject, there's just always more than one thing to consider but ok, cool, we don't have argue about whether Communism is good or bad.
But how did the TU win? You can use as many facts and charts and scientific studies to answer that as you'd like. ;-)
there's always more than one thing to consider when you try to make the argument about something very big and abstract when it started out as something very specific and concrete. maybe you should take a look at some facts and charts and scientific studies yourself instead of asking other people to take time out of their working day to point them out to you. you are wrong when you think youve won an argument when youve actually just exhausted your opponent.
It's not always about winning, sometimes it's just about understanding another perspective. I'm under no illusion that I'll convince you of anything, nor should you be that you'll convince me. We're both adults that are probably quite set in our ways. I just don't see how anyone can look at the TU situation and see a win for them. I'm not trying to win the argument that they lost, just trying to understand where one would find a win.
it's *totally* about winning for you! you are asking me a question this time, but usually you just change the subject and make a totally different point that is very far away from the thing i was originally talking about. you just want to keep arguing.
i like arguing with people when i learn something. my mind has been changed many times.
you should try reading carefully exactly what i said abt the union. the answer to your question actually lies in what i originally said. i'm not going to get sucked into a long exchange about it.
it's *totally* about winning for you!
Sorry but you're projecting. I'm not competitive at all and most disagreements I have with people whose minds I know I can't change are about just listening to a different perspective.
Anyway, ok, will not initiate any more political talk....
